💬 Testimonial – WWLW Online Coaching with Coach Rob
Where do I even begin with what Rob has done for me?
In January 2024, after many years of lifting weights, I pulled my back. But this time felt different. No matter how much I rested or scaled back my training, the pain didn’t go away.
That began months of chiropractic and physiotherapy—with no relief. By March, the pain radiated down my left leg and became excruciating. I've had three babies without so much as a Tylenol, but this pain had me reaching for every medication in the house. It started affecting every part of my life.
I could barely walk without limping. Driving became so painful I’d have to pull over. I’m a nurse, and it impacted my work so much I was put on restricted duties—no bending or lifting. I was taking 800mg of ibuprofen daily just to function.
Eventually, I ended up in the ER. After an urgent MRI, I was told I had a severely herniated L5-S1, impinging my S1 nerve—which explained the leg pain and numbness—plus two other smaller herniations higher up my spine. I was referred to a spinal surgeon, but I knew the wait would be long. And honestly, spinal surgery was something I neverwanted. But with the pain I was in, I would’ve said yes that very day if it meant relief.
I started researching and came across Dr. Stuart McGill’s Big 3 exercises, which I began doing daily. Then I posted in the Women Who Lift Weights Facebook group (Rob’s page) asking for recommendations for a coach who specializes in back injuries.
That’s when Rob personally messaged me. He asked about my situation and told me he had dealt with a very similar injury. After a few conversations, I knew I’d found the right coach—and in July, I officially started training with Rob through his online coaching.
From the beginning, he was incredibly hands-on—calling, checking in, video messaging, and adjusting my training weekly based on how I felt. We started slow: bodyweight only, focusing on core control and pain-free movement. For someone used to lifting heavy—even through pain—it was hard and humbling. But I trusted him. And I listened.
Then one morning in September, while getting the kids ready for school, it hit me—I had forgotten to take my pain meds. Something I never did before. So I waited. I got through most of the day without needing anything. And then it started happening more often—some days I didn’t need pain meds at all.
Fast forward to today—15 months after the injury and 9 months into training with Rob—and I’m 95% pain-free(just the odd ache here and there). I’m back to lifting heavier week by week. I even got a call from the spinal surgeon in January—and I happily declined the appointment.
Rob has been amazing. His knowledge, understanding, and patience are unmatched. I truly can’t thank him enough.
Thank you, Rob!!
