Try This KB Swing Variation

I love Kettlebell swings.

I feel they are one of the best exercises that can be done.

When they are done correctly…

Which often is not the case.

To me a Kettlebell Swing is very similar to the Barbell Deadlift.

Anyone can step up to a kettlebell and do a swing, same way anyone can step up to a barbell and do a deadlift.

Because you are doing it doesn’t mean you are doing it correctly.

Kettlebell Swings & Barbell Deadlifts are also in my option the 2 exercises that cause the most low back injuries.

Which is just another reason why technique and correct skill is so important with Kettlebell Swings.

Which leads me into today’s technique.

The Kettlebell Power Swing (Dead Stop Swing).

Check out these videos of some of the women I coach at my Heavy Weights Barbell Club doing timed “Power Swings” as my Shepherds Kaiser and Bella are on the turf chilling.

The Kettlebell Power Swing (Dead Stop Swing)

The Kettlebell Power Swing is an explosive, full-body movement that combines strength and power. This variation of the traditional kettlebell swing involves a dead stop between each rep, allowing for better control and maximum power generation.

Key Benefits:

  • Increases Explosive Power – The dead stop forces you to generate maximum force with every rep.

  • Improves Hip Hinge Mechanics – Enhances hip mobility and strengthens the posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, and lower back).

  • Builds Core Strength – Engages your core with every swing for improved stability and strength.

  • Boosts Conditioning – A great way to improve cardiovascular endurance and overall work capacity.

This is an excellent addition to any strength and conditioning routine, especially for those looking to build power and control.

I love teaching, coaching, and programming this Kettlebell Variation.

It tightens up your swing technique, gives your full body a great workout, and can be used for conditioning, explosive power and much more.

Check out this video on our WWLW YouTube Channel it’s a short video and will give you an understand of how to do a KB Power Swing.
