One of the most common questions I see in the gym is:

Free weights vs machines… which one is actually better?

The honest answer?

It depends.

Machines can be great for beginners and building confidence.

But free weights train the body very differently.

When you use barbells, dumbbells, and kettlebells, your body has to coordinate strength, balance, stability, and control all at the same time.

That’s why free weights tend to build:

• More total-body strength
• Better coordination
• More real-world carryover

Machines train muscles.

Free weights train the system.

Both have value — but understanding how to combine them properly can completely change how effective your training is.

I wrote a short article explaining exactly how I approach this with the women I coach.

You can read it here:

I hope it helps you.
