Bench Press - 3 Reasons Women Struggle

Coach Rob here and I hope you are having a great day.

It’s bench focused day at my gym tonight and on

On Wednesday I like to talk all things lifting weights and today I want to talk about the Barbell Bench Press.

When I coach a woman who is brand new to lifting many of them initially don’t like the bench press.

BUT…

It makes me so happy when after some training, improving technique, and getting a better understanding of bench press that women come to love it.

Example, every time I coach a class in person at the end of class I always do a “Review”. We go over the workout, the skills learned, and I always ask “what did you enjoy the most about this workout?”

When women reply back and tell me that they loved Bench Press the most this makes me a very happy coach.

As well I have worked with many women via Online Coaching to improve their bench press technique and strength from beginner all the way to advanced.

The Bench Press may be a struggle for many women for a 3 main reasons.

1. The Bench Press is a VERY technical lift. Out of all the compound lifts imo it’s one of the most technical. Once you understand bench technique more the pieces all come together.

2. The Bench Press requires time, technique and patience. Learning proper technique is KEY for bench press strength for women. Strength is a skill.

3. The gains come much slower compared to lower body focused exercises for women. Women generally lack the same upper body strength compared to lower body strength, so proper technique, tension and full body strength is paramount for women to have a strong(er) bench press.
